GELB, Ignace Jeremiah
(1907–1985)
   Polish-born American Assyriologist, based at the University of Chicago, where he initiated the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary project. He was particularly interested in Akkadian language and grammar (Old Akkadian Writing and Grammar, 1952) and the development of writing (A Study of Writing: The Foundations of Grammatology, 1952).
